Palmo takes its name from the gesture of grasping a handful of sand, when the hand closes and the matter settles into the hollows of the palm until it seems made to be there. The form is full and curved, with a waist at its middle and two small handles at the shoulders, a body that asks to be held. Modelled in black stoneware, the dark surface is covered with pale patches that run and cling, like sand left on the skin after we let it go.

This work is born from the observation of the silent time inscribed in matter, a contemplative presence between sculpture and everyday ritual, the result of an intuitive process of hand modelling.
